Antonela Barnat, mezzo

Possessing a powerful and velvety mezzo voice with strong technique, Antonela Barnat impresses her audience all over the world everytime she performs at the opera or on the concert stage.

 

Since her debut at the Bucharest National Opera House, the Romanian mezzo has been constantly growing her repertoire. From Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte (Dorabella) to Wagner’s Tannhäuser (Venus), from trouser-roles (Cherubino - Le Nozze di Figaro, Siebel - Faust, Romeo - I Capuletti ed I Montecchi, Nicklaus - Hoffmann’s Erzählungen, Hänsel - Hänsel und Gretel) through teenage-girl roles (Rosina - Il Barbiere, Angelina - La Cenerentola, Olga - Eugene Onegin) to mature feminine roles (Carmen, Lola, Santuzza, Marcellina), Antonela Barnat has acquired the interpretive and acting skills to overcome each challenge within her roles.

Antonela Barnat's commitments in 2019-2020 include at the National Opera in Bucharest the roles of Merope - Oedipe - G. Enescu, Siebel - Faust - Ch. Gounod, Cherubino - Le Nozze di Figaro - WA Mozart, the title role of Dalila - Samson and Dalila - C. Saint-Saens and that of Santuzza - Cavalleria Rusticana - P Mascagni and soloist on the stage of the symphonic concert in the Messa di Gloria - G. Rossini - National Chamber Orchestra, Bucharest - concert broadcast live on radio on November 13 and Christmas

Oratory - P. Constantinescu - The George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra - 19th and 20th of December 2019.

 

The mezzo-soprano sang as a guest of the George Enescu International Festival - Romania (2013), the Spring Festival - Bulgaria (2010) and the Gut Immling Opernfestival - Germany (2013, 2015, 2016). She is also a constant guest of the main philharmonic orchestras in Romania where she has performed a wide range of the vocal-symphonic repertoire including works by Pergolesi, Vivaldi, Händel, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Rossini, Mahler, Bruckner, Grieg, Debussy and song cycles by Romanian and international composers.

 

Her thorough music knowledge have made her a frequent guest of Romanian contemporary music events. The next one includes a short national tour promoting Aurel Stroe’s Les Choefores II - Orestia, September 29th - October 3rd 2018 in five major cities of Romania.

 

First prize winner of the Rhodes Singing Competition - Greece (2003), second prize winner of Magda Ianculescu Competition - Romania (2009), third prize winner of the Malmö Singing Competition - Sweden (2007), Antonela Barnat has sung under the baton of conductors such as Julien Salemcour, Cristian Mandeal, Paul Nadler, Marek Janowski, Cristian Macelaru, David Crescenzi, Jin Wang and Mark Mast.
