Benoit Pitre, bass

Benoit Pitre stands out through his warm bass timbre, his charisma and his engaging acting skills.


In the classical world, he will sing Frank in Die Fledermaus in 2019 in Germany.  Recent engagements in 2018 included many débuts - the Grand inquisiteur in Don Carlos with the  Landesjugendorchester Nordrhein-Westfallen, Kezal in Die verkaufte Braut at the Opernsommer Chorin, the German première of the contemporary opera Was bleibt in Nürnberg in role of the Bürgermeister, and his first contact with Wagner as Fasolt in Das Rheingold.  He also sung once more lo zio Bonzo in Madame Butterfly.  In 2017 he created the role of the « Grauer » in the contemporary opera Schattenlos in Berlin, interpreted Leporello again and gave his first Bonzo in Madama Butterfly as well as Melisso in Händel’s Alcina.
In 2015 he had his début as Don Giovanni in German, and sang Siméon in a staged L'enfant prodigue of Debussy. Came also a creation, the « Tanztheater » piece Pizzeria Anarchia with the reknowned Italian contemporary ballet Balletto Civile at the Teatro della Tosse in Genova, at the Musiktheatertage Wien as well as at the Neuköllner Oper in the double role of the Opera Singer/Police Chief.  In 2014 he sang Johann in Werther and Graf Almaviva in Figaros Hochzeit in Berlin, and sang Raphael and Adam in a staged version of Haydn’s Schöpfung with the Lübecker Singakademie.


He made his American Debut as Lord Cecil in Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda in 2013 and sang Don Pizarro and Don Fernando in a unique Fidelio staged by Stefan Neugebauer in Berlin.


His first experiences on stage came through Leporello in Don Giovanni, Zuniga in Carmen and Crespel, Luther and Schlemihl in Hoffmans Erzählungen at the Komische Kammeroper München, and also as Zuniga at the opera studio of the UQAM and as The Keeper in The Rakes Progress at Opera McGill, before embodying Peter Quince in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Tangelwood Festival in 2004.


Benoit Pitre was a fellow of the Junger Musiker Stiftung Bayreuth and the reknowned Tanglewood Music Centre in Massachusetts.
Born in Montréal, Benoit Pitre had his first contact with singing through the children’s choir of his parish.  He first pursued musical studies at the State University of New York, then at McGill University where he graduated with his B.Mus in Performance in 2004 as a Bass-Baritone.

In the musical theater world, he will have his début as Kaiaphas in Jesus Christ Superstar in Luzern in the Spring of 2019, created the principal role of the Pilot in Der kleine Prinz in 2016, a new German musical based on Saint-Exupéry’s Petit Prince that toured German-speaking Europe, and took part in European tours of Das Phantom der Oper in the role of the Persian in 2018-2019, 2016-2017 and 2012-2013.

Benoit Pitre also lends his voice in the dubbing world for TV, commercials and films.
