Christian Mendoze, conductor
Christian MENDOZE , was born in the Var (a region in Southern France). He has followed a rather unusual artistic course : after a career as a ballet dancer in France Belgium and Germany ( he was the “star” dancer of the Avignon , Dijon , Limoges and Liège companies ) he gave up his ballet shoes to take up recorder playing and orchestra conducting .
He founded the MUSICA ANTIQUA orchestra in 1981 and ran at the same time various activities such as flute teacher for international courses and creator of several artistic events :the festival of Ancient Music and the “Musical Evenings” season of TOULON , the Music Festival of CALLAS , the Baroque Music Festival of AVIGNON , the Music Festival of HYERES , and also the Autumn Festival of
At the same time he brought the MUSICA ANTIQUA orchestra to a high degree of international quality with prestigious concerts and a rich and ambitious recording policy . He also continued his activity as a soloist with his musician friends : CONCERTO KÖLN , LA GRANDE ECURIE ET LA CHAMBRE DU ROI , Davitt MORONEY , Charles BRETT , John ELWES , George ZAMFIR .
He was also invited to Italy by the “Musicali Affetti” ensemble and to Poland by the “St Stanislas of Cracovie” baroque ensemble .
For the present , he is continuing his research work into the ancient and traditional music of Hungary , Bohemia , Poland , but also into the more recent dances of BRAHMS , SMETANA , DVORAK , BARTOK , KODALY, etc that will be the subject of a series of recordings : a return to his choreographic years for Christian MENDOZE !
Besides , his career as a soloist and conductor continues in the Great European Artistic Centres : from the Midem to the Salle Gaveau , from the Chatelet Theatre to the Cracovie Philarmonie , from Rome to Vicenza , from Paris to Aix-en-Provence….
