Louis Zaitoun, tenor
 

Turning with the greatest ease into the roles of the French and Italian repertoire, the excellent young tenor Louis Zaitoun moves the audience with his truthful and intelligent interpretation. His lyrical voice with rich timbre is the result of a rigorous vocal work but also that of the mixture of its Norman and Egyptian origins.

On March 2, 2019, Louis Zaitoun was awarded the ADAMI prize for the best interpreter of the Italian repertoire at the Clermont Ferrand International Competition.

He will soon be Alfredo again in Verdi's Traviata from March 29th to April 2nd at the Summum in Grenoble; And he will play for the first time the role of Pinkerton in Puccini's Madame Butterfly on July 21 at the Bazoches festival, as well as the role of Lensky in Tchaikosky's Eugene Onegin at the BFM in Geneva in January 2020.

 

His operatic lyric italian voice together with his good knowledge of the stage enable him to sing a great variety of roles and a variety of genres. He has been lead singer in operettas like Offenbach's Les Brigands and La Vie Parisienne, and Herve's Chilperic. He has been lead singer in Belcanto operas like Donizetti's Rita and Verdi’s Rigoletto, Traviata, Trovatore ; Or dramatic works : Puccini's Tosca and  Boheme, Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, Bizet’s Carmen. 

 

He joined the French Army Choir which he left after one year in order to attend The HEMU, the Lausanne music school, where he graduated with a BA and then a MA receiving high grades and the congratulations of the awarding panel. He won 2nd prize in the Bezier Opera competition and a prize for interpretation at the International Academia Belcanto in Graz. He was member of the Lyon opera studio for the season 2017 – 2018. 

 

He obtained a degree in musicology from The Sorbonne and then studied singing with renowned teachers; Gary Magby, Pierre Catala, Leontina Vaduva and in particular, Christine Schweitzer, who taught him the technique that her own teacher, the famous Italian Baritone Gino Becchi, had taught her ; and he worked with the great Tenor Piero Visconti in Roma. He has also attended masterclasses with Sylvia Sass, Nadine Denize, Giacomo Aragall and David Jones.
