Marcel Beaulieu, bass
Critically acclaimed for his rich, deep voice and his generous scenic performance, the bass Quebecker singer Marcel Beaulieu has been seen for the 2017-2018 season on the stage of the Opera of Quebec interpreting the role of Sparafucile in Verdi’s Rigoletto and at Rimouski’s Opera in the old hebrew in Samson et Dalila from St-Saens and also in Gala Concerts with the Opéra Bouffe du Québec under the direction of Simon Fournier. Upcoming engagements include among other the role of Le Bailli in Opera de Quebec's Werther in October 2018.
Recent engagements in 2016-2017 season include on the stage of the Opera of Quebec, the role of Detto in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi and at the Opera of Montreal performing the role of the judge in the new production of Pink Floyd's composer Roger Waters ''Another Brick in the Wall ''and a Gala Concert at Rimouski’s Opera.
You could have seen him sing the role of Crespel in 2015's production of The Tales of Hoffmann at the Opera of Rimouski and a year later on the same stage where he performed as Oroveso, the arch-druid and father of Norma in the eponymous opera by Bellini.
Master's degree in Classical Singing Interpretation holder from Laval University in Quebec City, Marcel Beaulieu has a vast operatic repertoire including roles such as Count Ceprano (Rigoletto, Opera Hamilton), The King of the Sea (Sadko, Opera in Concert Toronto), Lake Spirit ( Rusalka), Don Alfonso (Lucrezia Borgia), Silva (Ernani), Lothario (Mignon), Marquis d'Aubigny (La Traviata, Opera of Quebec), Prince of Bouillon (Adriana Lecouvreur, Opera York), First Soldier (Salome, Opera Lyra of Ottawa), lead role in the Attila opera (Tryptych Production Toronto), and Rocco (Fidelio, Tryptych Production Toronto). In 2008, he interpreted Palemon in Massenet's Thais at the Metz Opera (France).
As a soloist, he also mastered various oratorios such as Dvorak's Stabat Mater ( Ottawa's National Art Center Orchestra and Waterloo Symphonic Orchestra of Kitchener), Haydn's Creation (Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic Society Orchestra of Montreal), Mozart's Requiem (Saguenay-Lac- Saint-Jean Symphony Orchestra), Puccini's Messa di Gloria, Fauré's Requiem, Dubois's The Seven Last Words of Christ ( Philharmonic Orchestra of the New World), Rossini's Little Solemn Mass ( Rhapsody of Quebec), Liszt's Missa Solemnis (Philharmonic Society Orchestra of Montreal).
