Marie-Chantal Marquis, mezzo
Born in Quebec, soprano Marie-Chantal Lemieux stands out for her lyrical and velvety voice. She is the recipient of a first prize in classical singing at the Canadian Music Competition in Vancouver in 2015, as well as the first prize in the master class at the Lyric Art Competition of La Relève Musicale in Quebec City in 2017. She has also won a third prize at the Laval University Solo Competition with Orchestra twice.
Marie-Chantal already has several roles to her credit. She was seen in several Montreal parks in August 2018 as Micaela and Frasquita in the Carmen opera with Alma Viva productions. She recently performed the role of Diane, in J. Offenbach's Orphée aux enfers, with the opera studio of the University of Montreal.
Marie-Chantal sang the role of Rosalinde, in the French version of J. Strauss II's Die Fledermaus, with the Laval University Opera in March 2017.
In 2016, she played the title role of Eurydice, in Gluck's Orphée and Eurydice, in the first edition of the Opéra de la Relève musicale in Quebec City. She also held the title role in Poulenc's Tummies of Tiresias, and the roles of a Pastourelle and a Owl in Ravel's The Child and Spells, as part of the opera workshop. 'Laval University. In 2015, she performed in Haydn's Il mondo della luna, where she played the role of Ernesto (transvestite role), as well as Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte by Mozart.
In parallel with the opera, Marie-Chantal was soloist with the choir of the music department of Cégep de Sainte-Foy, in the Gloria of Vivaldi, in 2011, as well as in the Small Mass of Rossini, with the choir of the faculty in April 2016. Marie-Chantal was part of the Quebec Opera Choir for the production of Verdi's Last Judgment, in 2014, in Quebec City.
Marie-Chantal holds a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in classical singing performance at Laval University, in the class of Patricia Fournier. Thanks to Storms and Passions, she had the chance to participate in a vocal development workshop with renowned tenor Richard Margison. She also perfected with him in 2018 at the University of Montreal. Marie-Chantal is currently completing her training at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal with Ms. Adrienne Savoie.
